TINA TURNER's
TWENTY FOUR SEVEN

Tour comes to Cardiff

TINA TURNER 2000 Millennium Stadium Ticket

On Sunday 9th July 2000 I travelled, with some friends, to the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff to see TINA TURNER strut her stuff for what would be one of her last Big Stadium Gigs.

We arrived at about 5pm and the first band (which was called TAXIRIDE, and came from Australia) came on stage at around 6.15pm and played for about thirty minutes.

Then at about 7pm JOHN FOGERTY, who used to be leader of CREEDANCE CLEARWATER REVIVAL, came on stage with his band and performed many of his famous hits. Tracks performed in this set included "25-40" (a relatively new song), "Bad Moon Rising", an all easy version of "Proud Mary" (more of that later), and "Rocking All Over The World" (which I had forgotten he wrote). During this performance we moved to better seats which were nearer the stage.

Then, at 8.30pm there was a big cheer from the crowd as the curtain came down revealing the full stage and TINA came on. As we were side on to the stage we had to rely on the video screens, however, this did not spoil my enjoyment, in fact, due to the clever special video effects it only served to heighten my enjoyment. When she performed "River Deep, Mountain High", they very cleverly mixed footage of her in the 60's with what was happening on stage, they also did this for "Acid Queen" (showing images from "TOMMY"), and "We Don't Need Another Hero" (showing images from "MAD MAX III, BEYOND THE THUNDERDOME"). At the start of "Private Dancer" TINA appeared, sitting on a chair, from under the stage. She performed "Try A Little Tenderness" as a duet with JOHN MILES. When she performed "When The Heartache Is Over", where the song ends with 'I can live without you' she added 'but not you', which I thought was a lovely touch, as this was the farewell tour. On "What's Love Got To Do With It" she got us to all join in, as she did with "24/7", only this time she even came off the stage to get close to the fans and let some people in the front row share the microphone. Just before the end TINA got JOHN FOGERTY back on stage to help her perform the 'easy' part of "Proud Mary" before she performed the 'rough' part, which started with a burst of fireworks.
